Areas of expertise
I am a veterinary researcher working on the genomic epidemiology of enteric bacterial pathogens and their antimicrobial resistance. Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is an urgent global public health crisis. Microbial genomics helps us understand the transmission of AMR among bacterial populations, and there is a need to harness this understanding to create interventions for public health. My group achieves this by studying Shigella pathogens using large-scale genomic epidemiology studies in high-income and low-to-middle-income countries (LMIC), laboratory experimentation and mathematical modelling. My group gratefully receives funding from the Wellcome Trust (Clinical Research Career Development Fellowship), Academy of Medical Sciences (Springboard award), Medical Research Council (New Investigator Research Grant and DiMeN DTP studentship) and Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (NLD DTP studentship).
