Areas of expertise
I am an evolutionary geneticist working on selfish genetic elements and functional and evolutionary genomics of satellite DNA. I received my PhD from Cornell University working with Andy Clark on Drosophila genomics and Y chromosome evolution. I did postdocs working on sex chromosome genomics with David Page at the Whitehead Institute and the selfish Segregation Distorter system and satellite DNA genomics with Daven Presgraves at the University of Rochester. My lab opened in 2015 at the University of Rochester: https://blogs.rochester.edu/larracuente. We combine genomic, cytological, and molecular methods to study repetitive parts of genomes.
